I know this one
It reminds me of a time
You could wind your clock to
Hands were painted on the face
Grandfather clock
I know it's a mess
Pond scum in the pool
You could crush a pill for
99 tiers of wellness
Lord, I cried 'em all
I know it sucks
There's nothing at the store
No, there's nothing you could
And there's nothing you can use
In this wood-paneled room
And I know there's a sticker
Under the sticker
It's nothing personal
And I know there's a highway to a quiet heart
There is no higher way than that

The courtyard is
Blocked in
Impenetrable Bush
Our tree
Is all grown
Up a boarded-up house
I wanted to tell you
But your crinkly nose was
Like a staticky phone line
Toilet ring
Of sun
On the racquetball court
I was standing in line
"THE GREATEST GIFT IS
LOVE" on a back tattoo
Between
Two moles
In front of me
The permission you grant
No permission
Two dead bats on Miami Street
You can write
A song about anything
Between two napkin roses
They remodeled the branch
Now it's crawling
With exacting standards
Between
Two hangdog managers
Pardon our dust

I wish it didn't have to be like this
It was like a Sinclair gas station
He's like a dairy cow
He says I ruined music forever for him
He's gonna do the painting you go down in history for
It's not like you own the ocean
It's not like you to part your hair like this
I wish it didn't have to be like this
Envelope of it in a wardrobe drawer
I saw a boy tell his mom
"The flowers are super beautiful with all the bees"
Then she said
"But I thought you scared of bees
I thought you were scared of bees"
They cleared a stand of trees
To build the interactive forest thing
It's not like you can plead insanity
It's not like you to go to war for this

I had three and I pitched them
Three wishes in the defunct fountain
The fish are biting glass
The skylight the storm took
It's me again
Talking to the dogs who guard the dumpster
I see myself as if from a great distance
I see the conversation from all angles
My wishes turned
Three confessional poems

The line was longer than a December night
There were crying babies and free giveaways
There was an open field out of the window
And all of what the window unit was in the way of
And the line was right up on the zip-tied barricades
And the room where it was: well, it was a room temperature room
Something was bubbling up between the years of wallpapers
Pathetic clown dolls and babies figurines
And loose sheet music in the piano bench
In the room where it was no room
Two blue squares. Folded blue paper
The pet food smoke engulfs the Starlink lights
The word we use is a made-up word
We made it up for you and you
And when the unit of time is no more than one day
Who could transcribe what the money tree says?
The angel of day observes the day school kids pray
But who would remember this song?
When when day is so long
I was vindictive. I was loose armrest fluff
I thought the Walgreen's marquee knew my walk
I'd tear open a hole of unclouded day
With all of what a "Love Is..." photocopy would communicate
And I was right up on the zip-tied barricades
And the story we tell is not a good one
There's no love, and the characters are a ragtag bunch
You have been nodding off in the yellow chair...
