I pour the dregs out
of my carafe of sludge,
tamp down the soil by
a eucalyptus tree.
There is a hive of bees
and a swirl of dust.
We fill a plastic can
from a pile of mulch.
There is a chill
undermines a human touch.
We set the woods on fire
when the touch goes cold.
There is an ad campaign,
it's a ash can school,
like, "If you like this,
then all your dreams come true."
There is a searchlight
flashes on the leaves,
where there's a line with guns
around the property.
I keep away from
all the people I see
who crave validation
from authority.

The tree line
On the other line
Say the quote
Scare quotes
Like your own grim post
Just say what you desire
Say it to your own device
O the lonely pleasures sweet
